Jim Phillips – Model A 9’7

First introduced in the mid-late ’60s by Reynolds Yater, his idea was to effectively reduce swing weight in turning. The turns did back then were different from the turns people do now and was more of a throw than a carve. It was also to set up noseriding and the lower frontend weight made the bottom turn into a stall easier. The name model A came was a Step deck model for Surfboards Hawaii the first one was produced in Encinitas back in 1967. This is Jim’s tribute to the Model A step deck with original stinger combo from the ’60s.
